The Tecnopolo Manifattura | Data Valley Hub is home to some of the most powerful High Performance Computers (HPC) in the world, as well as being the international reference for Supercomputing, Big Data and Artificial Intelligence. The Technopole has applications in the field of science and technology in the domains of meteorology, climatology, health, earth sciences and industry.

Started a feasibility study in view of its establishment at the Bologna Technopole from 2025. This was discussed today at Opificio Golinelli, in Bologna, at the conference "Emilia-Romagna Senseable Lab, toward the cities of the future" with the aim of strengthening dialogue and involving local stakeholders, starting from institutions and research organizations to citizens, around the research and innovation potential of the project.

The Tecnopolo Manifattura is one of the most important outcomes of innovation policies in Italy and Emilia-Romagna Region in the field of Big Data, Supercomputing and Research Infrastructures: it is also a major investment that brings to the region over 80% of total computing capacity in Italy, also thanks also to recognition on a national and European level.

The construction project

Tecnopolo Manifattura | Data Valley Hub extends over an area of more than 120,000 sqm, designed and built in the 1950s by Pier Luigi Nervi for the former Tobacco Factory (ex-Manifattura Tabacchi), with architectural solutions still classed as innovative today. The current work represents an important pioneering urban redevelopment and regeneration project for the city of Bologna.

The Hub represents an access point to the Emilia-Romagna Technopole’s Network and will operate in close connection with all the regional and national ecosystems of innovation.
