ENEA Laboratory

The construction, which closes the central body of the former Tobacco Factory, will host laboratories and offices of ENEA, the national agency for new technologies, energy and sustainable economic development. ENEA will be bringing its industrial research activities in renewable energies and circular economy, in particular 4 laboratories: LECOP, ENEA Laboratory for the Environment; LAERTE, energy efficiency, renewable energies, security and heating systems; CROSS-TEC, interoperability and process virtualisation for business networks and TRACEABILITY, focused on the theme of food traceability and certification of “biomass-based” energy.

The recovery of the existing building, referred to as “Lavorazioni” (processing), also includes the recovery of stairwells which will make a bridge between the ENEA Laboratory and the newly built courtyard buildings facing Via della Manifattura. The spirit of the project envisages a restoration which is attentive and respectful to the protection of the most significant original structures by adjusting the spaces required for comfort and to the new functionalities, all the while maintaining the original industrial character.
