Nervi's Factory

With the post-war reconstruction, the municipal administration identified a new area to relocate the industrial activity of the Tobacco Factory, stipulating an agreement in 1948 with the State Monopolies Authority: the tender for the designing of the area was won by Nervi & Bartoli Enterprises, where the engineer Pier Luigi Nervi was a founding member and structural engineer. The new Tobacco Factory (Manifattura Tabacchi) was built between 1952 and 1960. It was an opportunity for Nervi to experiment with innovative construction technologies, entering the finished building among the greatest industrial architectures of the 20th century.
