STMicroelectronics, a global leader in semiconductors with customers in all application sectors of electronics, intends to establish a new design center in Bologna in synergy with the Region's innovation system, taking advantage of the multidisciplinary know-how of the University with which it has already had several collaborations for decades.
The agreement is part of the Region's commitment to create a Data Valley hub at the Tecnopolo Manifattura in Bologna, developing an articulated innovation ecosystem based on research, business and expertise capable of extracting value from data, supporting and directing choices, protecting the environment, citizens and assets, and modernizing services.
The agreement strengthens the relationship between the University of Bologna and STMicroelectronics. A partnership has been active for many years, which led, during 1998, to an agreement between the parties to establish a joint laboratory at the 'Ercole De Castro' Interdepartmental Center for Advanced Research on Electronic Systems. Partnership that has expanded with research activities in chemistry and materials with the Department of Chemistry 'Ciamician'. The University intends to allocate on an interim and exclusive basis a portion of real estate it owns in Bologna to STMicroelectronics, pending future establishment of the new design center at the Technopole.
